He had paid for admission and left the theatre; it made no sense that he should leave with an older woman, her skin furrowed with wrinkles and her voice an indecipherably empty murmur. I sought refuge in cleaning that familiar place of its intermittent oneiric visits. I swept corners that had accumulated a world of dust and dry leaves; my grandmother’s chairs were there, waiting to be repaired, just like that painting depicting a dinner on the Mediterranean Sea.
I noticed that the house had new leaks and dampness, and that the room at the back still filled me with an indescribable fear. Now I was on the other side, outside it, and I discovered a corridor that connected it to the rest of the house, but an enormous door blocked it all.
The order on this plane is different from the usual one, yet I recognise it as a memory suspended between the material and the divine. Perhaps that is why, in the earthly realm, it is a painting, while in the oneiric realm, it becomes a landscape that comes to inhabit the floor, retaining its supernatural particularities: the perfectly aligned chairs.
The threshold is covered in dust, yet it remains beautiful. Alicia left it there, in remembrance of the Shir HaMa’alot; it was not a simple dinner, but the path of ascension, the union of lineages, where the object becomes territory.
The astrolabe of the plates becomes the divine bridge for crossing the sea of the unconscious towards the light of the horizon. To sit at that table was to align oneself with the laws of the universe, leaving behind the darkness of the stormy sea.
